Sidewalk Installation and Replacement in Hackettstown
Fix the cracks, the trip hazards, and the sections that sank years ago.
Sidewalks take a beating in New Jersey. Freeze thaw cycles crack concrete, tree roots push slabs upward, and decades of settling leave sections uneven and hazardous. If your sidewalk has become a trip hazard or an eyesore, replacing it is a straightforward project that makes a visible difference.

When Your Sidewalk Needs Replacing
Cracks wider than a quarter inch are not going to seal up with a tube of filler. Once a crack opens that wide in NJ, water is getting in and the freeze thaw cycle will widen it every winter. Lifting and heaving from tree roots is another common issue, especially with mature oaks, maples, and sycamores. The roots push from below and there is no cheap fix. The section has to come out.
Sunken sections that collect water are a safety hazard in winter. Standing water freezes into a sheet of ice right where people walk. If you have gotten a notice from the township about your sidewalk condition, it is time to act before fines start adding up.
Our Sidewalk Installation Process
We start by removing the old material. Concrete gets broken out and hauled away. If tree roots caused the problem, we assess root cutting options and discuss them with you before proceeding.
The subgrade gets regraded for proper pitch and compacted. Gravel base goes in for drainage and stability. For concrete sidewalks, we set forms at the right height and pitch, pour, screed, and finish with the appropriate texture for traction. Control joints get cut to manage where future cracking occurs.
For paver sidewalks, the process follows the same base prep as our patio work but at the narrower width and grade requirements that sidewalks demand.
Every sidewalk we build has positive pitch away from the house or toward the street for drainage. Standing water is not acceptable on a finished product.

Sidewalk Cost in Hackettstown
Linear footage, width, material, and the amount of demo and root management needed determine the cost. A simple concrete replacement of 30 linear feet is a different project than rebuilding 80 feet of sidewalk that has mature tree roots underneath. Call for a free estimate and Angel will lay it all out.
